Welcome!

Welcome to the web site of St. John the Apostle United Methodist Church and, through it, to an introduction to the family of faith known as St. John the Apostle. I am grateful for your interest in (or curiosity about) St. John the Apostle and that you have found our web site.

My name is Steve Langford. I have the privilege of serving as Senior Pastor to this gifted community of faith. I am an elder in the Central Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church with 30+ years of experience in ministry. I was appointed to St. John the Apostle in June of 2002. Along with all of our church staff, I welcome the opportunity to visit with you, to know you, to serve you, and to walk with you as we grow together in grace.

St. John the Apostle is a community of grace committed to making disciples. Describing ourselves as a community of grace means that we seek to relate to one another with the unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness with which God embraces us. Grace - God's grace for us, our grace with one another - is the context in which we seek to grow as disciples - people who, in following Jesus as Lord, are learning God's servant ways of grace, seeking to make them our way of life. Because we are serious about being disciples, we encourage every member to be actively involved in two places beyond worship: (1) a small group which nurtures one's understanding and growth in grace and (2) a place of ministry. We believe this two-dimensional pattern of discipleship promotes healthy spirituality.

I invite you to worship with us on Sunday mornings. We offer four different worship services, each with a different expression of praise and worship. These services allow you to choose a style or expression of worship that is comfortable and meaningful to you. The 8:30 service is our Traditional Service that is built around liturgy and the celebration of Holy Communion. The 9:40 service is a Blended Service that incorporates elements from both the traditional style of worship and the contemporary style. A children’s worship service – Kids Connection – is also at 9:40. Kids Connection is a child-friendly, high energy, interactive and engaging worship service for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. The 11:00 service is our Celebration (contemporary) Service that incorporates modern praise and worship songs led by a Praise Team and accompanied by guitars, keyboard and drums. A nursery is available for infants and toddlers at each service.

I also invite you to join us beyond worship. We offer a wide variety of disciple-making opportunities. Traditional Sunday School classes and Academy-style classes are offered on Sunday mornings. Beyond Sunday morning are study groups and support groups designed to nurture spiritual growth in the context of spiritual friendships.

If you choose to be a part of the community known as St. John the Apostle, we will help you identify a place – a place of spiritual friendships in which to grow spiritually and a place of service that is suited to your gifts, abilities and life experiences.

Come be a part of the good things that God is doing in our life together.
